Memory Pillows

Memory pillows are a great keepsake made from the garments of our loved ones. They are cosy and huggable and will bring back all the lovely memories of the person that once wore the clothes they are upcycled from.
I was recently asked to make these, and was given two shirts with similar weight cotton. For one side of the pillow I decided to combine both fronts of the shirts. I moved buttons as they had different spacing. One of the shirts had small pockets that I left on the panel, they can become a cute little hiding place for mementos. The button up fronts can now also be used to get the inside filler cushion in and out. That way they are easy to remove and pillow can be washed.
The other side of the pillow was made using a plain patchwork pattern, with the materials from both shirts. As there's usually plenty of material left over, the front can be made in lots of different styles, so each pillow can be unique. Even collar can be left on if desired.
Memory pillows can also be made out of knitwear or other materials. I used a jumper and a zip up cardigan to make two more pillows.

These pillows can aldo be great upcycling projects for the clothes we no longer wear but just can't part with.
