This quilt was inspired by a talk I attended at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham way back in 2021, by the wonderful textile artist Jo Avery. I loved the idea of keeping a daily record of Temperature each day, the highest and the lowest, then making that into an art project. Each Celsius was assigned a different colour, from icy blues to hot oranges. Then each day i would write down that days highest and lowest temperature in Brighton. A whole year of squares. The actual finished quilt has a few days missing, as it was not possible to divide 365 days into equal rows. I may have even recorded some temperature wrong, but hey. it's art.
so each tiny square was made out
of two different colours. I tried to use up some of my stash, as well as buying several shades I didn't have. I started and finished recors for this quilt on my birthday, and as it was a fairly mild year, greens and yellows dominate. Overall I really like the finished effect. All curves were cut freehand, with a Rotary blade, then sewn in batches throughout the year.
Back of my quilt includes the legend, a large 54 applique, and a hanging sleeve.
I also made a point of making a label with name, date and piece name, one thing I often forget but it is important.
